Info for Parents

In-home care enables parents to access child care when other child care services are unable to meet their needs. THe NSWIHCS outsources in-home care for families who meet the Eligibility Criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
As of 1 January 2007 In-home care is targeted to families who:
have no access to existing child care services: or their circumstances mean that an existing child care service cannot meet there needs and where the family meets one more of the following criteria;

- the parent/s work shift work or non-standard hours;
- the family lives in a rural or remote area
- has a child with an illness or disability;
- one of the parents has an illness or disability that reduces the family's     
  capacity to care for the child(ren);
- the parent/s have had a multiple birth (three or more);
- the parent/s have three or more children not yet attending school.


How much does it Cost?
Families using NSW In-home Childcare Services may apply for Child Care Benefit to help pay a portion of their fees. A non compulsory fee guide is available by phoning 1300 795 401. The fee for care is calculated on an hourly rate depending on the number of children in care and the hours of care. Any additional costs involved in care (transport, travel to and from the parents home, meals and outings) are to be negotiated between the parent and carer and may not subject to Government subsidy. A Registration fee is payable to the In-home Childcare Service Provider. This service is GST exempt.
